The story begins in Amsterdam in the 13th century when the city was a fishing village.

According to legend it was discovered by two fishermen and their dog that had run aground on the shores of the river Amstel. Tradition sets the date of its inception to 27 October 1275. The inhabitants living on the banks of the Amstel dam were exempt from taxes. They were not granted civil rights q'u in 1300. In 1400 Amsterdam became a thriving town with its trade with the Hanseatic League.

the Dutch in the 16th Sieci initially favorable to the Spaniards rebelled against Philip II of Spain. This revolt led to 80 years of war and the independence of Holland and a return to religious freedom that helped make the Netherlands more powerful.
